Two kilometres of intact rampart, walked at parapet height
Two kilometres above the roofs with no doubling back, so reserve a morning walk on the Roman wall at Lugo
From $122 per person, in Galicia and Asturias. Four hours, 09:00 to 13:00, all of it above the roofs of the old town. This day runs whatever the numbers: one booking is enough to set it going, and rain does not stop it, because the walkway still drains the way the engineers cut it to drain.

Four hours, one complete circuit
You meet at the gate named in your confirmation at 09:00 and go up by the ramp rather than the stairs, which matters if anyone is carrying a small child. The circuit is a little over two kilometres and the guide takes it in one direction without doubling back, stopping at the tower stumps, at the two stretches where the parapet is original rather than rebuilt, and at a stair that drops you to the base course so you can see what the walkway is standing on. There is a long pause on the length above the old market ground, which is where the plan of the city reads most clearly from above. You come down on the far side by 13:00.
Steps, stone underfoot, and shelter
Two kilometres on the level, plus one descent and one climb of about forty steps each, worn smooth and with nothing to hold on the open side. The surface on top is a mix of packed grit and old paving, and it keeps water in the dips for a day after heavy rain. There is no shade for most of the way round and no shelter at all, so the weather is felt for the whole four hours. The pace is slow and the guide plans two seated stops on the grass. Anyone who walks a flat mile without thinking about it will find this easy. Anyone who cannot manage forty uneven steps should say so, because there is a shorter version that skips the descent and costs the same.
Money: what $122 buys here
The $122 per person holds the guide for four hours, the entry that the descent to the base course needs, and a printed plan of the circuit that you keep. It does not hold food, drink, a bed, travel to the city, or anything inside the cathedral, which charges separately and is not part of this morning. It does not hold cover of any kind, and this office sells none. Because the day runs whatever the numbers, the figure does not fall when the group is large or climb when you are the only booking that week. The company that runs the walk bills you in its own name, directly. This office takes no payment and holds no card details.
Awkward things people ask about this day
- Is the circuit possible with a wheelchair or a pushchair?
- Most of it, yes. The ramp at the meeting gate takes wheels to the top, and the walkway itself is level and wide enough to pass anyone coming the other way. What is not possible is the stair down to the base course, so that stop is dropped and the guide brings the same material up to you. The surface is packed grit rather than smooth, so a light folding chair is hard work in the wet. Tell us when you book.
- Does the wall shut in bad weather?
- No. It is open ground and it stays open, which means a strong wind is felt for the full four hours and there is nowhere to duck into. Galician rain is usually fine rather than heavy, and the walkway drains well. If a storm warning is out for the morning, the operator moves the start to the afternoon rather than dropping the day, and tells you the night before rather than at the gate.
- Can we go inside the towers or the excavated rooms?
- No. The tower stumps are open at the top and nothing more, and the excavated rooms under the modern street belong to a separate site with its own door, its own entry charge and its own hours, none of which line up with this morning. We will not sell you a day that implies otherwise. If those rooms are why you are coming, book them yourself for the afternoon and we will tell you where the entrance is.
The other five days near this one
Two days that look close on a map are not always joinable in one week, and the office will say so plainly instead of selling you the pair anyway.
